Greiner Assistec Leresti Romania SA was founded in 1993. It was named AMPLAST CO SA.

Until 2011, the company AMPLAST CO SA was owned by a group of 32 private shareholders. In 2011, it was taken over by a new shareholder – GREINER PACKAGING INTERNATIONAL.

Leresti was chosen as the location to promote the plastics processing business, which is based on several strategic elements:
. the company location in central Romania allows for the optimum product distribution all over the country
.the distance to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, is only about 180 km
.geographical closeness to industrial centers with a large number of prospective customers of GAL (e.g. Pitesti, Craiova, Bucharest, Sibiu, Curtea de Arges)

Leresti is a tourist center located just 7 km from Campulung Muscel. It is attributed with being the first capital of the country of Romania (foundation reported as between 1310 to 1352) and is also the place where the first formal document in Romanian was written (1521). A considerable Saxon community lived here until the seventeenth century.

An important milestone in the industrial history of Campulung Muscel area is the production of ARO cars between 1957 and 2006 – the only SUVs ever made in Romania.
