Greiner’s Reusable Drinking Cup drives change at major Motorsport Event in Germany

At the end of May, around 52,000 fans gathered at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Brandenburg, Germany, for a thrilling DTM race weekend. Amidst the roaring engines and packed grandstands, a sustainable product solution made its debut: the Reuseable Drinking Cups by Greiner Packaging. For the first time at the Lausitz Ring, single-use plastic was replaced by durable, stackable, and reusable drink cups – specially developed for large-scale events.

Sustainability in Focus – Reuse Instead of Single-Use

The introduction of the Reuse Cups was implemented in cooperation with Greiner’s customer Hänig’s, the exclusive full-service caterer at the Lausitzring. Previously, single-use plastic cups were standard – a practice increasingly phased out due to stricter environmental regulations and rising awareness.

An additional driver behind the switch is the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which will require the use of reusable cups at large-scale events by 2030.
